Predictors of stroke among mid-age and old-age women
Lifestyle behaviours such as smoking and heavy alcohol consumption are established risk factors for stroke. Whilst other behaviours such as physical activity and BMI have also been shown to predict stroke, findings have been inconsistent, especially for associations with pathological stroke type. The impact of psychosocial factors (including depression) and socioeconomic status on stroke is less well understood. We aim to investigate the contribution of classical, lifestyle, psychosocial and socioeconomic risk factors to stroke risk and explore the relationship between multiple risk factors and how they interact to affect stroke risk.
