Psychological distress and hypertension risk in the mid-aged cohort
Depression has been shown to be associated with increased risk of cardiovascular disease, but the mechanism underlying this association remains poorly understood. One hypothesis is that depression may impact on blood pressure. However, the evidence remains conflicting with studies reporting inconsistent findings. We aim to investigate the association between both depression and anxiety (the latter of which has been comparatively less well studied in relation to hypertension) and incident hypertension in a cohort of mid-aged women.
