Risk factors for elder abuse for older Australian women, living with and without dementia.
Study 1 (Risk factors for elder abuse for older Australian women, living with and without dementia) Synopsis: Accurate understanding of risk factors, and accurate detection of elder abuse is fundamental to developing protective systems. Globally, women are more likely than men to experience elder abuse. Inconsistencies in research methodologies, including the exclusion of highly vulnerable groups (eg. people living with dementia) from some studies, is likely to have contributed to variability in the evidence around risk factors. This study examines and compares the characteristics of older women, living with and without dementia, who experience elder abuse. Identification of risk factors for Australian women, particularly women living with dementia, may influence development of best practice approaches to detection.
