The impact of maternal adverse childhood experiences and violence in adulthood on women’s health, parenting, and child outcomes.
Research has shown that intimate partner violence adversely impacts on the physical and mental health of women over the lifecourse and can have deleterious effects on outcomes for children exposed to this violence. Studies have also demonstrated agenerational effect on offspring of mothers who experienced adverse childhood experiences (ACES) while growing up. This projectwill align these fields of research by examining the potential cumulative impact of maternal exposure to adverse childhoodexperiences and violence across the life course on outcomes for women in the 1973-1978 cohort and their children.
