New findings have been released from the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women’s Health this year highlighting the need for greater awareness of healthy lifestyle practices for pre-conception and the toll endometriosis is having on healthcare systems.

Hospitalisations and lengths of stay in women with endometriosis
Women with endometriosis have more hospitalisations compared to those without the condition. Dr Dereje Gete, Professor Gita Mishra, Professor Annette Dobson, Professor Jenny Doust, Professor Grant Montgomery and Dr Reza Baneshi recently released the first longitudinal study into hospital admission rates and lengths of stay before and after endometriosis diagnosis, using research from the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women’s Health, a joint research study with the University of Queensland and the University of Newcastle. Preconception Health Awareness
New research from the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women’s Health highlights a need for greater awareness of healthy lifestyle practices before conception. Professor Jenny Doust, Professor Gita Mishra, Dr Dereje Gete and Alemayehu Mekonnen, found data varied across preconception status, with many women not engaging in healthy lifestyles. Fertility and Endometriosis
Using ALSWH data, Dr Katrina Moss from the University of Queensland found in the 1973-1978 cohort, 12 per cent had been diagnosed with endometriosis. Of those diagnosed, 47 per cent said they had trouble trying to conceive, making early diagnosis crucial to help improve outcomes.
