ALSWH and CWHR submission to the Consultation on the National Strategy to Achieve Gender Equality
ALSWH and Centre for Women’s Health Research staff member, Natalie Townsend participated in Consultation Roundtables on the National Strategy to Achieve Gender Equity run by the PMC Office for Women on the 1st of December, 2022.
The followup submission made by CWHR used ALSWH data and addressed:
- gender bias, stereotypes and societal attitudes that perpetuate gender inequality
- the prevalence and impact of gendered violence
- women’s economic disadvantage
- improving women’s health services and evidence base
- strengthening and utilising the longitudinal evidence base.
Outcomes
On the 7th of March, 2024, the Minister for Women released a report titled “Working for Women: A Strategy for Gender Equality.” The strategy outlines the Australian Government’s 10-year vision for gender equality and highlights current and recently implemented Government action to achieve this vision.
The report referenced the ANROWS Sexual Violence Report in Priority area 1: Gender-based violence (page 42).
“Women identifying as bisexual or lesbian are more likely to report having experienced sexual violence in their lifetime than those who identify as heterosexual.”
