Synopsis
Based on self-reported data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) 2017 – 18 National
Health Survey , an estimated 1.2
million Australians (4.9% of the total population) had diabetes. Successful
long term management of diabetes requires a complex interaction between
medication administration, self-monitoring, diet, exercise and consultation
with healthcare professionals1. However, barriers exist towards
effective self management2, 3. The purpose of this study is to explore the
experience of living with diabetes in women participating in the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women ’ s Health
(ALSWH) .
