Role of Preconception Health Risk Factors on Maternal and Perinatal Health Outcomes among Adolescents and Young Adults in Australia
Synopsis
Pre-pregnancy
health conditions and risk factors can have a negative impact on both mother ’ s
and child’s health. While there has been recent focus on the preconception
health of women in general, but there has been limited information available concerning
the preconception health of adolescents, who are disproportionally at higher
risk of maternal and perinatal health outcomes. Risk factors like low socioeconomic
status, malnutrition, non-communicable diseases, consumption of tobacco/drugs, etc.
are crucial for pregnancy and may lead to adverse maternal, perinatal, and
child health. If these risk factors are catered to at an appropriate age can
help reduce the risk of adverse health outcomes. Therefore, we aim to study the
impact of preconception risk factors on maternal and perinatal health outcomes
among Australian adolescents and young adults (aged 18 to 24 years).
