The Impact of Child Maltreatment on the Lives of Australian Women
Synopsis
This research project
aims to understand the long-term impacts of child maltreatment on health and
life outcomes such as education and employment of Australian women. Data from
surveys 3, 5, and 6 of the 1989-95
cohort and surveys 7 and 8 of the 1973-78 cohort within the ALSWH will
be used to identify Australian women with experiences of child maltreatment
(e.g. physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse). Since such adverse experiences
occurred before the participants turned 18 and were determined from the ALSWH
in the later waves, this research project will utilize data from all surveys related
to these cohorts since entering the ALSWH to compare health and life outcomes between
Australian women with and without a history of child maltreatment. Additionally,
the project will also assess how these impacts evolve over the course of their
lives.
