Women's attitudes to, and experiences of use of prescription and non-prescription medicines

Synopsis

Previous research suggests that some individuals struggle to meet the costs of their health care, despite the presence of Government subsidies and concessions. We examined the free-text comments from the first five surveys of the ALSWH, across all age cohorts, for content relating to costs of medicines and health care. We found a small number of relevant comments, but these showed that the costs of medicine and doctor visits were a concern for women of all ages, especially those who just miss out on government concessions due to their income, as well as those on very low incomes.
