Arthritis indicators for women: A comparison of Canada and Australia.

Synopsis

Musculoskeletal conditions (diseases that affect bones, ligaments, tendons, muscles and joints) limit physical functioning, impose significant pain and suffering and are the number one cause of disability and chronic pain in Canada and Australia. The recent Project for an Ontario Women's Health Evidence-Based Report (POWER), funded by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, Ontario, explored indicators (measures that reflect health of a population or performance of health care processes and outcomes) related to arthritis, to encourage a broader response to this important public health problem. This paper will compare specific health indicators related to arthritis for community living older women in Ontario, Canada and in New South Wales (NSW), Australia.
