What is the optimal approach for physical activity and sitting interventions aiming to reduce incidence rates of major health conditions?

Synopsis

Worldwide, health professionals recommend a minimum of 5 days of 30 minutes moderate or 3 days of 20 minutes vigorous physical activity per week. There is also growing evidence to suggest that >6 hours/day of sitting is associated with poorer health outcomes. People with insufficient activity and/or high levels of sitting are at increased risk for developing cardiovascular disease (including hypertension) and diabetes. The aim of this study is to quantify the increase in physical activity and decrease in sitting needed to achieve a 20% reduction in incidence rates of major chronic diseases in the population.
