Synopsis

The number of hip and knee joint replacements surgeries in Australia doubled from 1994/95 to 2004/05. Despite this increase in procedures, long-term predictors and outcomes of joint replacements are poorly understood. Since 2002, all joint replacements procedures are registered in the National Joint Replacement Registry (NJRR). Linking data from this registry with ALWSH may provide unique opportunities to study long-term predictors and consequences of joint replacements from a life-course perspective. The results will be valuable to inform clinicians of the effectiveness of joint replacement procedures on the population level.
