Vasomotor menopausal symptoms and risk of breast cancer

Synopsis

Although a link between vasomotor menopausal symptoms (VMS), that is hot flushes and night sweats, and breast cancer is plausible, this has been poorly studied so far. We will investigate relationships between VMS and incidence of subsequent breast cancer outcomes. Furthermore, interactions with hormone therapy use will be examined. We will use data of the mid-age cohort of 13,715 Australian women, for which determinant and confounder data already have been collected, and endpoints will be obtained through linkage with existing registries. Findings will provide a more detailed understanding of the health correlates of VMS.
