Changes in use of osteoporosis medication over the past decade: influences of guidelines, availability and policy

Synopsis

Over the past decade, developments in anti-osteoporosis medications and evidence for the effectiveness of these medications have led to changes in guidelines and policy. This study examines whether changes in availability, guidelines and policy have impacted on use of medications for osteoporosis in older women. Data from the ALSWH will be used, with data from the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) to examine and evaluate trends in medication used for prophylaxis and treatment of osteoporosis.
