A history of abuse: Impact on physical and mental health outcomes in mid-aged women carers.

Synopsis

Currently no research has examined the impact of an abuse history on the capacity of women to take on a caring role. Research suggests that the poorer mental health and depleted personal resources of women who have experienced abuse might make them particularly vulnerable to poorer outcomes in terms of stress and mental health (and potentially physical health) than women without such a history. This project will investigate whether women with a history of abuse are more likely to become carers and what happens to carers in terms of health and wellbeing if they have a history of abuse.
