Sitting time and risk of cardiovascular disease

Synopsis

Limited evidence suggests associations between sitting time and cardiovascular mortality in later life, but the associations with cardiovascular disease incidence are unclear. In addition, most studies have measured only single sedentary behaviours such as television viewing, rather than total sitting time. Our objective is to elucidate the associations between sitting time and risk of cardiovascular disease among the mid-aged women of the ALSWH study. Interactions with BMI and physical activity will also be studied. Findings may eventually lead to a basis for interventions to reduce sitting time.
