Profiles of vasomotor menopausal symptoms and risk of diabetes

Synopsis

Vasomotor menopausal symptoms (VMS), i.e. hot flushes and night sweats, are experienced by up to 70% of women around menopause. Previous cross-sectional studies have found that women with VMS have unfavourable cardiovascular disease risk profiles. However, there is little research on whether profiles or trajectories of VMS through menopause are associated with long-term health outcomes. This study will elucidate the associations between VMS profiles and risk of diabetes – one of the most powerful markers of cardiovascular health. Findings will lead to a better understanding of the consequences of VMS.
