A cluster analysis of behavioural strategies associated with weight change: a longitudinal analysis

Synopsis

The rates of obesity have risen substantially in the past two decades. The consequences of having an unhealthy weight are well established and include type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, musculoskeletal problems and many cancers. Given the high prevalence of obesity and associated costs for the healthcare organisations, there is a need to find effective behavioural strategies that people can use to manage their weight. We hope by undertaking this research we will identify clusters of weight control behaviours that appear successful and unsuccessful in helping overweight/obese people manage their weight. This type of information can then be used to help us develop weight control programmes that include the most successful weight control behaviours to help people better manage their weight.
