Longitudinal association of diet quality and depressive symptoms in mature age-women

Synopsis

This study aims to examine whether adherence to a good quality diet is associated with depression risk. Previous studies have shown an association between of consumption of a healthy diet and reduced risk of depression. However, these studies used single baseline assessment of dietary intake, which provides a weak temporal relationship between diet and depression. The ALSWH use repeated measures of dietary intake, thereby providing a stronger support towards this temporality. Findings could potentially show that long term consumption of a good quality diet is preventive towards occurrence of depressive symptoms, and guide future development of healthy eating strategies for depression prevention among Australian women.
