Improving the detection of disadvantaged Australians at high risk of cardiovascular disease

Synopsis

Current cardiovascular disease risk tools in Australia do not take into account the independent risk associated with socioeconomic disadvantage, resulting in reduced prioritisation of preventive treatment among individuals who need it most. This project seeks to develop and validate an Australian risk prediction tool for identifying individuals at high risk of developing heart disease and stroke, which will include a measure of social deprivation. The translation of results from this project has the potential to improve both the effectiveness and allocation of treatments for the prevention of heart disease and stroke, particularly among more disadvantaged Australians.
