Differences in physical health symptoms in young women born in 1989-95 and 1973-78

Synopsis

This paper reports on section 7 in the Major Report I (Section 7: Physical health status). It provides the prevalence of physical health symptoms from the first survey of ALSWH participants born in 1989-95 (New Young Cohort (NYC)). It compares the key indicators of physical health status with those obtained from the first survey of ALSWH participants born in 1973-78. Indicators of physical health status available in both cohorts range from menstrual symptoms to the diagnosis of chronic conditions such as diabetes. Disability and self-rated health are also measured. The paper also examines the contribution of sociodemographic characteristics, lifestyle factors and stress to differences in the physical health between the NYC and the 1973-78 cohort.
