The association between cardiovascular medicine and fall risk in older women

Synopsis

Guidelines recommend that patients with coronary heart disease are prescribed a combination of four medication groups; statins, beta-blockers, ACE-inhibitors/A2T receptor blockers and anti-platelet agents to prevent future cardiac events. Some of these medications have been found to increase fall risk. However, the fall risk associated with this package of four medication groups is unknown. In this study, we aim to examine whether the benefits in terms of cardiovascular health outweigh the potential negative effects of falls for women prescribed these medication groups.
