Factors associated with suicidal ideation in young Australian women aged 18-23

Synopsis

Suicidal ideation is a type of suicidal behaviour, which can be defined as thoughts or wishes to be dead or kill oneself. It is suggested that suicidal behaviours fall on a continuum from ideations to attempts and completion. Suicidal ideation invariably precedes suicidal attempt or suicide and is relatively common with it being significantly more prevalent in young women (23.7%) than young men (14.8%) (Lewinsohn, Rohde & Seeley, 1996).
