Sleep disruption during pregnancy and its relationship with dietary intake.


Pregnancy-related sleep disruption is common, even in those without prior sleep problems. Recent research in non-pregnant populations has demonstrated that disturbed sleep has a powerful influence on both food choice and metabolism. Sleep disruption has been found to result in poorer food choices (higher carbohydrate and fat-containing food), decreased signals to stop eating and a lowered metabolism, resulting in overall weight gain. The study will investigate the relationships between sleep during pregnancy and dietary intake.
