Major Report K: Future health services use and aged care needs

Synopsis

The proposed project forms multiple sections in Major Report K. It will compare trends in key drivers of poor health, including overweight/obesity, smoking status, mental health problems, and dementia, in three ALSWH cohorts (1973-1978 1946-1951, and 1921-1926) and by population subgroups categorised by highest educational attainment, ability to manage on income, marital status, home ownership, and area of residence. Trends in health and aged care service utilisation will also be identified. This data obtained from 20 years of ALSWH will then be used to project health service use, total PBS and MBS cost and aged care needs for the next 20 years.
