Sitting time and frailty.

Synopsis

Frailty is a geriatric syndrome that leads to multiple adverse health outcomes, dependency, disability and even premature death. Based on recent estimates, one-fifth of Australian women between the ages of 73-78 years old are frail suggesting that health and behaviors of middle-aged women are important to examine to identify factors associated with the development of frailty. Sitting time is associated with poor physical function suggesting it may be related to frailty. Investigating relationships between sitting time and frailty in middle-aged women may help to develop programs to ameliorate the health impacts of frailty.
