Retention of participants over 21 years for three age cohorts.

Synopsis

Effective participant retention is a challenge for longitudinal cohort studies. Over the past 25 years ALSWH has retained participants in three cohorts who were aged 18-23, 45-50 and 70-75 when the study first collected data in 1996. Women leave the study for a variety of reasons and these differ by cohort. The aims of this paper are to examine the predictors of attrition and retention across the original three ALSWH cohorts and to examine the effectiveness of various retention methods.
