Impact of a PCOS diagnosis on health-related behaviour, lifestyle choices and psychosocial wellbeing.

Synopsis

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder affecting women of reproductive age and is associated with adverse reproductive, metabolic, cardiovascular and psychosocial outcomes. Using data from the 1989-95 cohort, this project focuses on women who report a new diagnosis of PCOS (not reported in survey 1 but in subsequent surveys) and examines whether the diagnosis is associated with changes in BMI, lifestyle (physical activity, diet, smoking, alcohol use, contraceptive use) and psychosocial wellbeing (self-harm, disordered eating, distress). These women will be compared to women without PCOS, and women who initially report a diagnosis of PCOS but do not re-report.
