Synopsis

Arthritis is a common and disabling disease; costs of managing arthritis are substantial. Many studies have examined the cost of arthritis; however few have examined the effect of comorbidities on healthcare utilisation and total cost, and/or other predictors for incurring higher costs. This doctoral research addresses this gap by applying innovative methodology to more accurately track the occurrence and economic impact of arthritis in Australia. It also seeks to identify factors that are associated with higher health services use; and in turn, identify individuals most vulnerable to the impacts of arthritis.
