Thinking about IVF? Get checked for endometriosis first

What you need to know about endo before starting IVF

Are you thinking about trying to get pregnant using assisted reproductive technology (ART)? It’s important to get screened for endometriosis first. Here’s why. Women participating in the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women’s Health shared their experiences with ART. The women who were diagnosed with endometriosis after ART were 2x more likely to use IUI (Intrauterine insemination), when IVF (in vitro fertilisation) is recommended. They were also 4 times more likely to a LOT of ART cycles, and 33% less likely to report a birth. But, women who were diagnosed before starting ART had the same success rate with ART as women without endometriosis. If you have heavy periods or severe period pain, please get screened before starting ART.
