Early menopause and menopausal symptoms in the 1973-78 cohort

Synopsis

Menopause marks the end of a woman s reproductive years, and it usually occurs between 45 and 55 years. Previous research showed that around 1 in 10 women experience early menopause (<45 years), and 40%-60% of women report vasomotor symptoms (i.e., any degree of hot flushes and night sweats) during menopause. However, little is known about early menopause and common symptoms experienced by Australian women who are currently in the menopausal transition (mid- to late-40s). Therefore, this study aims to investigate the prevalence of early menopause (natural and induced) and common symptoms and their lifestyle and reproductive predictors among women born in 1973-78.
