Stress management style, exposure to stress, and the impact of adverse socioeconomic conditions associated with the development of depression and dementia

Synopsis

Exposure to major traumatic events and/or the experience of chronic stress is associated with the development of depression and dementia. However, we don t yet know what factors, including individual-level coping style, and broader social (including social support and loneliness), and economic factors (income, education, and area variables including Socio-Economic Indexes for Areas and access to green space), may mediate this risk. In this study, we will examine the effects of exposure to stress and stress management style, controlling for social support, and disparity/socioeconomic status, on the risk of dementia or depression.
