The investigation of trauma and violence on later life urogenital conditions and symptoms among Australian women.

Synopsis

In Australia, 2 in 5 women (39%) have experienced violence since the age of 15, and 1 in 6 women have experienced childhood abuse (18%). Intimate partner violence contributes to more death, disability, and illness in Australian women (15-44 years) than any other preventable risk factor.

Using the data from women born 1946-51 and 1973-78, this project will closely investigate the association between experiences of childhood trauma and domestic violence and subsequent urogenital conditions and symptoms experienced in later life, including urinary and pelvic dysfunction, health screening behaviours, etc.
