Does diet quality before and during pregnancy predict pregnancy and birth outcomes?

Synopsis

Hure et al (2009) used the Dietary Questionnaire for Epidemiological Studies from the ALSWH young cohort at Survey 3 to calculate diet quality, based on the Australian Recommended Food Score method by Collins et al (2008), according to pregnancy status. Australian women did not consume a wide variety of nutritious foods when planning to become pregnant or during pregnancy and many failed to meet key nutrient targets. This study aims to determine whether diet quality or absolute nutrient intake before or during pregnancy is predictive of gestational diabetes and hypertension in pregnancy, preterm delivery and low birth weight, after adjustment for confounding factors.
