Is statin use associated with symptomatic arthritis? Statins are a common drug used to lower cholesterol levels in people with or at risk of heart conditions. In addition to cholesterol-lowering effects, statins also seem capable of targeting mechanisms underlying osteoarthritis, including the inflammation often associated with osteoarthritis and its pain. Evidence from recent studies suggests that statin use may protect against osteoarthritis radiologic structural progression, particularly in the knee. The current study investigates whether statin use protects against symptoms of arthritis including joint pain and mobility limitations. Publications: 711 Return |
