Health expectancies of sarcopenia.
Sacropenia is the loss of muscle mass, strength and function and is a condition usually associated with older people. As medical care becomes better, more individuals are having a longer life span. However it is important to determine the quality of this increased life span, as sarcopenia can lead to a loss of independence which results in a poorer quality of life. Determining the number of years living with and without this conditions, and the effect of socio-demographic, lifestyle factors and comorbidities, can contribute to the policy debate about healthy ageing and service planning.
